Trail Life USA is a Church-Based, Christ-Centered, Boy-Focused mentoring and discipleship journey that speaks to the heart of a boy.

Established on timeless values derived from the Bible and set in the context of outdoor adventure, boys from ages 5 to 17 are engaged in a Troop setting by male mentors where they are challenged to grow in character, understand their purpose, serve their community, and develop practical leadership skills to carry out the mission for which they were created.

Brief History of Troop TX-0017:

What started as a prompting from the Lord in January 2024 to start a Trail Life Troop as a Christ centered alternative to Scouting soon turned into a small group of five men meeting and praying nearly every week. Officially Chartered on November 5th, 2024, the months of prayers and planning are beginning to show fruits. Thursday, February 6th, 2025, kicked off Troop TX-17ā€™s very first meeting! The Lord is good and exceeded our expectations with 27 Adult men and 37 Boys on night one. We have steadily grown ever since.

Adventure is at the heart of the Trail Life USA program. Boys love hiking, camping, fishing, tree-climbing, storytelling, and sā€™mores around campfires. Weekly meetings are designed with that in mind. Held outside whenever possible, meetings are designed to delight the raucous, rowdy, unruly nature of a boy. Trailmen engage in hands-on experiences that develop character, deepen faith, and hone practical skills in the seven program branches (Outdoor Skills, Life Skills, Heritage, Hobbies, Values, Science & Technology, and Sports & Fitness).

Age Groups

  • Woodlands Trail (Ages 5ā€“10): In the Woodlands Trail program, younger boys gain foundational knowledge about outdoor skills, citizenship, character, friendship and faith. Through engaging activities, awards and skill instruction, they begin their journey of growth and discovery.

  • Navigators (Ages 11ā€“13): As Navigators, boys deepen their understanding of their values and beliefs. Under the mentorship of godly male role models, they take on responsibilities in outdoor adventures and everyday life, exploring areas of interest and earning Trail Badges that mark their progress.

  • Adventurers (Ages 14ā€“18): Adventurers face greater challenges that test their wisdom and faith. Through leadership activities and outdoor events, they mature as they take on leadership roles within the Troop. These young men also mentor younger Trail men, sharing the knowledge and experience theyā€™ve gained on their journey.

The Trail Life USA advancement program is distinct for many reasons. First and foremost, it is designed to honor biblical values in every aspect of the program. Trail Life USA is not just an outdoor program that incorporates a Christian experience. Trail Life is at its core a Christ-centered program that utilizes the outdoors to draw boys and their families into a closer relationship with their creator.

A Christian worldview is integrated into every part of the program because it is critical to both our mission and vision as well as to the spiritual growth of every Trailman who commits himself to the values we uphold. In the Navigators and Adventurers programs, the Branches from the Woodlands Trail program become Frontiers to be explored as Trailmen continue along the trail.
